Idaho DOPL State Occupational Therapy Licensure Board Adopts New CE Guidance Document
In line with the newly updated DOPL Rules for the Licensure of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants, where the continuing education requirements section was trimmed down significantly to follow recommended Zero-Based Regulation stipulated initially in 2023, the Idaho DOPL OT Licensure Board recently voted at their 7/26/24 meeting to provide licensees a new CE guidance document. This document contains many of the categories and clarifications from the prior licensure rule chapter, however, also goes into more detail to specify what types of details a licensee should ensure they have to provide for the types of CE courses or presentations they are attending, as well as maintaining documentation for verifying continuing education completion for four years. The Idaho OT Association also remains listed as one of the Recommended Sources of Continuing Education Credit, alongside the American Occupational Therapy Association, and the National Board for the Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Please be advised, it is not within the role nor scope of the Idaho OT Association to determine what constitutes as qualified continuing education for an OT or OTA licensee in the state of Idaho. Any questions as to if a continuing education course or activity meets these requirements should be directed to the Idaho DOPL State Occupational Therapy Licensure Board directly for clarification, after careful review of the CE guidance document. The IOTA does, however, intend to ensure that any continuing education course, presentation or activity that we the Association provide meet the requirements stipulated in this new document.
